Increase the power of an electric car

Luckily, although this is a totally new area, there is room to make it faster and more fun to drive, so we’ll be looking at the best mods for the new generation of cars as well as e-mobility. When you tune an electric vehicle for more power, you focus on the following areas.

Battery upgrades

Increase the battery capacity, and maybe even running a slightly higher voltage will release more power. Icar management computer (CMC) will usually decide the power distribution for each engine and look at the rangebattery temperature and driver current demand to calculate this.

Modifications to the CMC are possible and you can work around this, an alternative would be to intercept the sensors and send back false signals so that it doesn’t cut power or be forced to over-power. Heat buildup and lower range are the issues you’ll have here. It is not uncommon for batteries to be replaced by more efficient manufacturers. For example, Tesla batteries are very well designed, from the housing that aids cooling to the formulated electrodes/electrolytes. Battery technology will always improve, providing denser energy storage and fewer heat issues. As batteries age, they degrade, although clever management of load discharge has prolonged this. Battery technology (rechargeable or not) is changing rapidly and we are seeing increased capacities, longer lifespans and cooler operation with improved reliability. TIP: You can extend the life of your battery by skipping every quick charge and only charging to 80% capacity. This is repeated fast charging and holding at 100% charge that causes the batteries to degrade. As for the charging time, it is indefinite.

If you have an electric car (or scooter), there are three conditions that allow you to charge your car at public charging stations or terminals.

First, you must have a charging card, a badge or a means of payment giving access to a large number of public charging stations (such as, for example, Lafon). Then you must have an electric vehicle and a cable that is compatible with the terminal.

Finally, you must find a charging station available and accessible to the public (if you want fast charging, you can find some charging points in car parks or charging stations). It is also possible to locate the various charging points from the secure mobile application, Chargemap.

If you want to install a terminal and thus recharge your car, you must have a place to park your vehicle and that this place has an electrical panel. You can also choose between charging stations, co-ownership or the right to take.

electric motors

During short trips, the engine does not reach operating temperature. Electric motors are the heart of an electric vehicle and are much simpler than a combustion engine, with far fewer parts. An electric motor is different from a heat engine.

A Peugeot iOn, for example, is a electric car which has a 47 kWh motor for a range of 150 km.

Adding additional motors to each wheel or both axles (depending on car configuration) will give twice the grunt of the stock setup. Some electric car manufacturers specify different models and power ranges, and it usually depends on how many motors they have. If a model can come with 2 or 4 motors and you only have half of them, you can bet there is room to retrofit the motor(s) and subject to wiring changes and management, it may work. We heard of an enterprising Tesla Model S owner tricking his CMC into thinking he had an extra motor and it activated Ludicrous mode! Obviously, the power would not be at the level of a true multi-engine model, but will exceed the standard model. Also, adding more powerful motors will help. As more EVs hit the road, there will be a wide range of electric motors to choose from, with, we foresee a ready aftermarket for the upgraded motors. All of these manufacturers of brushed/brushless electric motors and alternators can seize an opportunity here as existing sources of business dry up. Having stronger magnets and different windings, of different grades and formulations of copper, will produce more power.

car computer management

If you can access management, you can usually bypass some of the protections to extract more power. As with all cars, manufacturers reduce power output to meet reliability and warranty requirements, and are generally overly conservative. It’s not uncommon for an electric vehicle maker to release a car, get car insurance, and then release a software update that boosts power. Battery life may be reduced, range may suffer, but you’ll get more power. As modern electric cars are computerized, you will need a different set of skills to set and change them and most manufacturers protect, encrypt or obfuscate the management configuration in the computer to make it more difficult. Over time, most car management units can be cracked and changed.

Inverter modifications

The inverter takes direct current from the batteries and turns it into alternating current (alternating current) for the motor. In its simplest form, the faster the motor spins, the faster the AC switching speed. The pulses should vary depending on the load and the voltage peaks should be constant and strong. The higher the frequency, the more potential power can be released from the motor. There are optimal switching rates for every motor, but we can safely assume that manufacturers don’t seek to go beyond a safe economical setting, so there’s almost always room for improvement.

Battery cooling

If you can keep the batteries cooler, you have a chance of getting more power because most EVs are set to cut off power output when the batteries heat up. Air cooling, water cooling, and changes to heatsink design can all contribute.
